It's getting cold! (Week 5)

Well hello there.
Autumn is coming.
It's beginning to get cold this week and we are very ready for the changing season.
browning Korean tree

The changing season brought about cold air and the wind that blew was extremely piercing. It's nothing like Singapore, we have felt absolutely nothing like this before.
It's very exciting to step out of our dorm and go either "Ooohhh crap so cold" or "Dang, so hot."
Everyday is a beautiful surprise.
We found this beautiful sunflower patch just right at the back(or front, not sure which side up) of our dorm, amidst the other dorms.
It was very very beautiful and the sunflowers were very tall!

Anyway, we walked pass a Jajyangmyeon store when we were heading back from the BBQ store from last week so, JAJYANG!
The noodles were being served very quickly and the noodles tastes okay. One bowl only costs 2,000 won!
Oooooonions
We met another floof when we were going
to Chuncheon Myeongdong.
IT RECOGNISE USSS!!!!

We were hungry one night so we walked around the outside of our school to look for food. We came across this Izayaka looking restaurant and decided to give it a go.
10 spicyness level
We ordered this "super nice looking plate of dish" and some takoyakis. The waitress warned us that the "super nice looking plate of dish" was spicy but we thought, "How bad can it get?".

Oh boy, you are sooooo wrong.
It got from 0 to 10 in an instant.
This spicy chicken leg dish is probably like the spiciest thing you can actually eat without passing out.

Even the rice doesn't do anything to help!

You can see Belle going for
another chicken leg (lol)
We (more like Belle) couldn't do anything but to keep refilling cold water. The store uncle was nice enough to give us complementary grapes when they noticed we were huffing and puffing away.

To ease off the spiciness, we decided to order potato.

We managed to finish all our food.
Shi Jia had to brave the spiciness and finished all the chicken leg on her own because it's really like 10/5 spiciness. Not kidding at all.

The potato was really delicious, it had different kinds of potatoes.
Wedges, french fries, tater totes, hash brow.

Urgh, my stomach grumbles when I think about it.

We always walk pass this burger store that promotes its fillet larger than its burger buns.
We'd always make fun of it like "What if its the buns that are small" or "Maybe the fillet is just long".
Finally, the chance to test the test is here.
The "too big burger" is the one with overflowing patty and damn, it's huge.
The burger set comes with french fries (choose one from Honey, Cheese, Cajun and Onion?) and a drink. It's super filling and really nice. Maybe the normal burger is enough...
Tony Burgers!

There was a Hallym Dorm festival(?) as well and our buddy was involved in serving food! They had tents set up and prepared food on the spot for us.
Remember how we mentioned it was getting cold?
Yeah.
We ate out there in the cold.
Liang Jing didn't join us because she bathed already and didn't want to leave (lol).

Our buddy had free meal coupons so she gave us her coupons. Our dinner that night was free.
We can never thank her enough for all her kind gestures.
We ordered sausage with vegetables and stir-fry spicy pork (which was absolutely not spicy at all after the chicken leg incident)

They had games and everyone was just sitting around, talking to their friends.
It made us feel like those kopitiam uncles in the middle of the night. It was a weird feeling.

We couldn't stop eating this Korean dish. It's really addictive and really cheap.
For a 3 person portion, it costs only 33,000 won.

Chicken, guys. We love chicken.

Hey, what chu doing?

Can't see you, where is the one jacket
for me?

Did we show you how our dryer looks like?
We had to wait 30minutes for people to collect their
clothes so we could put ours in like hey. set your timer please.
Alright! That's all for now.
We hope you've enjoyed our articles so far.
Good luck and all the best!

We decided to focus more this week (Week 4)

Hello everyone!
We didn't do much this week. We were finally given our midterm assignments and were told to prepare for them. We just decided to, you know, study. (OMG. Did I say study?)
We are not kidding at all. The assignments here are very group based.
The modules that we are currently taking are:
Topics in Current Psychology, Management in Information System, International Business, International Business Analytics and Finance.
Our professors are very nice and understanding. All our lessons are also taught in English so no worries!

Anyway, here are some of the things we did this week.

MEAT
We initially wanted to eat Nenek chicken with our buddy last week but it was closed for Chuseok so we couldn't eat it with her. Instead, we went to the other chicken store nearby.
So, we went back to Nenek chicken a week later and ordered this!

Sweet and Spicy sauce chicken with Cheese powdered chicken! All topped off with some topokki (korean rice cake) here and there.

It looks good. I know.
It tastes GREAT.
This plate of double chicken costs 21,000 won. Best part? It's boneless (extra charge of only 2,000 won!).

Spicy level 9.5
Its nice and too
much for 2 person
We were walking around Chuncheon Myeongdong when Belle noticed this black Hokkien Mee looking dish on the right so we decided to give it a go.

The menu had a small indication, stating if we wanted it to be spicy or not. We chose not to.
It was a two person platter.
Belle shared the dish with Shi Jia while Liang Jing solo-ed the bowl of cold spicy ramen on the left.

We saw this cutie pie at a Korean Bookstore
when we were walking to KT telco to fix our
Korean sim card.
Adrian, the teacher in-charge, introduced us to a Korean student who is going to NYP in the first semester of 2017 for an exchange program. His name is "Sam". He's in year 3 and Majors in English Lit and Programming. We talked quite a fair bit and exchanged information about our countries with him. We were very excited when we told him about the amount of food we have in Singapore. We miss Singapore's food a lot.

We met up on Sunday to have BBQ Pork just right outside, and deep into the small street of our school. We ate super a lot of meat and the free flow Kimchi was just too good to be true.
Sam was the chef for the night!
The entire meal amounted up to only 22,000 won for 4 people.

We have found our favourite BBQ place guys. 22,000 won, it's about SGD$28.
Hi guys, meet meat. Meat, meet everyone.

This, guys, is what we have been up to the entire week.
We always sneak shots of the lecture slides for International Business because the professor did not upload the slides on their blackboard (it's called S-Campus here, S in short for "Student")
It okay, we're surviving.

Study so our future will be brighter than
our foreheads
We're ready to fight the new week.
Good luck and all the best!

Chuseok weekend (Week 3)

Hello everyone! Classes this week only had Monday and Tuesday. Everyone is preparing for Chuseok!

Chuseok (추석) is Korea's longest holiday. It is a major harvest festival and a three-day long holiday in Korea. It's a combination of our Moon cake festival, Grave visiting and Chinese new year.
During Chuseok, they pray and thank their ancestors for the good harvest. On the table, only freshly harvested crops are used - freshest rice, newly plucked apples.
It is also the time for families to get together and talk about their year. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

So, we got our Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and weekends off!
Of course, with such a long holiday, we didn't want to spend all of them up in the mountains.
We went to SEOUL!

Train to Yongsan (lol)

The train ride took us about an hour to get to Yongsan station directly from Chuncheon station. We then took a taxi to our Airbnb which was located just about 10 minutes walk away from Seoul station.

We had allocated seats on the train but were all being split up. I guess everyone is going home for Chuseok.

Yongsan Station!

We spent quite some time looking for the taxi stand when we reached Yongsan. We didn't understand where the arrows were pointing towards. But, we got it.

And here comes the legendary....

REAL MYEONGDONG!

It's like a really really really gigantic Orchard Road with tons of small roads to walk into, with more shops in between. They have all kinds of stores, from H&M to Innisfree, to Shoe stores, to Jewellery shops to Mask stores. It feels like anything and everything can be found here in Myeongdong.

This is definitely the real deal.
We managed to (kinda) finish walking between all the alleys and around Myeongdong.

There was just so many things to look at and so many shops to enter we took a solid 2 days to walk around.

Everyone says Korea is all about the street food. They all smell great everytime we walk pass the stores. They sell a wide array of delicacies. Strawberry mochi, sausages, Ice cream Taiyaki, dried squid, fruit juice, even glass noodles!
It was really hard to just watch when all of the food smells so good.

This was our dinner for the first day >

Why would you open two same stores side by side?
Why not? It's Myeongdong!

Here are some of the street delicacies we tried!

ice cream waffle
strawberry mochi
sausage with cheese sticks

All the food was making us hungry all the time we were walking around even though we had dinner earlier.

It's okay to "dabao".
Just buy everything.

Sneaked a wefie with their cute caps
that Brown is HUGE!

We also found the Line store in Myeongdong!

We went there on Thursday but since it was Chuseok, the store was closed.
We went back the next day, on Friday, and hurrah! It's open!

Line seems to be everybody's favourite. The store was packed with customers, and many people queued up just to have a picture with Brown (picture on the left).

We bought bags full of gifts and little line goods for ourselves.
They were just too cute, we couldn't resist!!
We'd probably buy everything if we had the money to.

Oh! YG!
That night, we went to Lotte Mart, which was near our Airbnb. It's like our NTUC just that it's probably much bigger, with more customers.

Edible fish

They had rows and rows of snacks, even beauty stores like Etude House and Innisfree inside! The beauty stores are smaller, like a pop up store instead of a real physical one but it's the same thing.

It had Toys' R Us, MUJI and Uniqlo on the second floor, and even a pet shop!
not edible fish

they look like mochis
There was a parrot on the lady's hand when we walked pass. It was really cute.

They had fishes, hamsters, snails, beetles, hedgehogs, guinea pigs and birds on sale.

On Saturday, we went to a raccoon cafe in Yongsan!

We had to order to be seated!
Yes, raccoons. There were 2 black-grey raccoons and 1 all white raccoon.
The main attraction? A small little corgi pup in the store!
Just kidding. But the corgi pup was really cute.

yes, they let visitors do this

The chocolate cake was really delicious and was only for 5000Won (SGD $4.50).

How rare.
We dont have raccoon cafes in Singapore, do we? It's not everyday you get to see raccoons.

They were really cute and fat. We also didn't know that raccoons could climb.

After the cafe, we went back to being 2000% tourist.
Seoul Tower!

Before we went up to the tower, we stopped to watch them perform! It's a kind of traditional performance. The photo on the left was the first. It was very entertaining. It was an uproar as they played the drums while they performed. The photo on the right is a performance for the king back in the Tang(?) Dynasty. It's a martial arts and swordsmanship performance. They sliced bamboo sticks right in front of our face.

Island is lost in the horizon!

Up on the highest floor, they had an array of glass panels with the names of countries and cities in that direction.
We walked down the aisle and managed to find Singapore!

No, we couldn't see Singapore from where we were (lol).

we tried.

Here are some of the stunning views we managed to get up in the tower!

Is Chuncheon somewhere there?

Seoul Tower's shadow!

Seoul has a Fortress Wall that surrounds it's perimeter

Our dinner for the night! It only costs 8000Won/person (SGD $7.20)
Best part? It's buffet!

It's getting late here. We have school the next day so, for now!
Last picture!

Ahem.

Good luck!
Cheers :)
